Nursing Modules 1+2 Reflection
Nursing Module 1: Testing Strategies and Remediation
After completing the first learning module, I learned a lot of valuable tips and strategies that I will be able to apply in my nursing education. Some of these tips and strategies I learned apply to test taking, such as tests provided by professors throughout the next two years and the NCLEX. One strategy I learned is regarding question styles. I found that NCLEX and nursing exam questions have a much different set up than previous exams I have taken. But after completing this module, I was able to learn about the different question styles such as SATA, negative questions, ones regarding nursing priorities, etc. Now that I am able to identify these types of questions, it has helped a lot when taking exams because I am able to think through the question and what they are actually asking.
Nursing Module 2: Nursing Concepts
After completing this learning module, I learned a lot more about the nursing profession and the type of critical thinking it requires. In addition, nursing is a profession that includes various other healthcare professionals and especially the patient. For example, nurses have to collaborate inter-professionally with other healthcare professionals such as providers, medical assistants, specialists, and many more, in order to provide the best and most effective patient care. This requires a lot of communication and collaboration between everyone. The nurse also needs to include the patient in their plan of care. This means educating the patient on various aspects of their plan of care: the purpose of it, how it will work, any cautions or contraindications of medications or procedures, and how to properly continue their plan of care post discharge from the facility.

Excellent work Hailey. Nursing tries to enhance and engrain critical thinking even in its testing process. Little tricks that this module offers should be valuable for you during testing over the next two years. It is interesting that often observers of nurses, think it is ‘doing things to patients’ when in reality, a significant amount of nursing care occurs in the brain as nurses never stop assessing the patient, the environment, changes in status, and onward. Developing the relationship with the patient is what drives us and provides enormous job satisfaction!
