Moving forward, the COVID-19 pandemic will have lifelong effects on so many aspects of our lives, but most importantly the healthcare industry will forever be changed. Through evidence appraisal and synthesis, I discovered much more about my topic than I had known about it. I had always been aware of nurse burnout, but I didn’t realize how much of an impact nurse shift length actually had on patient safety. One specific interaction that I found that demonstrated therapeutic communication was towards the beginning of the interview, and one team member responded to the patient and said, “I understand, that must be really difficult for you.” This is an example of validation and can help the patient feel understood and that they are in a safe place to discuss their feelings, which was the case as the patient began to open up more after that.  I also liked how someone…
