Pre-Interview
I describe a leader as someone who not only cares about the company or workplace, but also their co-workers and followers. Someone who not only encourages hard work, but will also reward hard work, and works alongside with their co-workers. A leader is someone who inspires and encourages, not persuade and demand. When I think of a strong leader, I think of one individual who I decided to do this interview with. I chose my subject because I really admire their work ethic, leadership skills, and overall demeanor and personality. This individual that I chose is a charge nurse on my work floor. Whenever this individual is charge, she provides an upbeat work environment and always tries to start the day with positivity, which is really encouraging! The role she plays is a clinical nurse coordinator or charge nurse, which is a formal leadership position because she is the individual who coordinates admissions/discharges, daily workflows, answer any questions we may have throughout the day, and promote a positive workday attitude. Formal leadership is a clearly defined role, which a clinical nurse coordinator is. Informal leadership is the opposite, in which there may or may not be a specific role, but the person is recognized as a leader by others.
I am very excited to conduct this interview and learn much more about this individual and what inspired them to become a leader! I specifically want to ask them about a few different situations in which I have seen them work as an effective leader. From my perspective, it seemed like they were very stressful and intense situations, however they seemed to diffuse everyone in the situation and create a seamless resolution with all parties. I admire someone who can do something like that, which is why I look up to this charge nurse!
