Preparing for Licensure – ATI CAT PHARMACOLOGY

Reflecting on the ATI Pharmacology CAT test, I feel like I did a lot better than I expected. There is always room for improvement, but I feel as if I have a good foundation of pharmacology knowledge and I was able to recall a lot of it during the test. I feel confident in cardiac medications, and I think that was what I performed best in. Patient education/teaching was another area where I felt went well, and it required me to pull from my pharmacology course as well as my adult health courses and apply it to the question. I did well on mechanism of actions of medications, which was always my strong suit when it came to exams in my pharmacology course too.

Some questions I had a little trouble remembering the specific medication, or the adverse effects associated with them, and after remediating those questions I do feel a lot better about them.  I noticed that I have difficulty with the herbal therapies, as well as medications regarding menstruation/labor/delivery so I want to focus on those when it comes to studying and going forward. I have maternity the second half of the semester so hopefully I will get a much better understanding of the specific medications used in labor or as contraceptives. When it comes to adverse effects and what to report to the provider, I think I need to use better testing strategies because I know what is expected vs. unexpected, but I always forget to prioritize which findings are crucial to report. I try to apply ABCs and use that as a framework, however sometimes I would hurry too much through the questions and not apply that correctly.
