From inquiry through discovery
This EBP journey so far has definitely been challenging but it has also been a great learning experience. Since choosing a topic and developing a PICOT question, we found that our PICOT question was a little too broad and we were finding way too many articles than we could handle, and more than necessary. We realized that we needed to revise our question. We started with the effects of nursing shift lengths on quality of care AND patient safety, and found that the search results were a lot and it was hard and time consuming to search for relevant scholarly articles. We decided to revise our question and focus more on the patient safety aspect, and found that this was much more manageable and we were able to find relevant and peer reviewed scholarly articles. We were able to work collaboratively together in order to solve this challenge we encountered. Some successes that my team experienced was that we were able to find numerous peer-reviewed scholarly articles that really helped us with our PICOT question. We not only found first hand research studies, but systematic reviews, and articles giving excellent background information that will really help us with our paper! My team member and I have been really effective in collaborating with each other and ensuring we are both on the same page. We were able to work well together when an issue arose and take it step by step on how to resolve it. I think that we have a great process going so far when it comes to team collaboration, equal work effort, and communication which has made this project go along a lot smoother.
