Preparing for Licensure
Reflection on ATI Adult Medical-Surgical CAT with remediation
Reflecting on the ATI Medical-Surgical CAT, overall I am satisfied with my performance thus far. There is room for improvement that will come alongside more practice tests as well as implementing appropriate test taking strategies, which is one of my goals for the semester. However, while taking the exam I felt as if I knew a lot of the content which made me feel confident in my nursing knowledge so far. There were a handful of questions that I was unsure of, but I tried to use appropriate testing strategies to help me navigate the difficult questions. Sometimes this helped, but I noticed that there are just some content areas that I need to review more. This includes nutrition, which has always been a troubling content area for me when it comes to exam content. After reviewing my IPP (individual performance profile) I noticed that respiratory, musculoskeletal, and endocrine also need some reviewing. This makes sense to me because these were the most challenging exam content areas for me personally. However, after seeing that these were my troubling areas, I will create a plan that includes reviewing these specific content areas and maybe try doing individual practice tests on each of these individual topic areas.
As much as I do not like to admit it, remediation has really helped me understand nursing content, rationales for questions, as well as understanding appropriate test taking strategies significantly. I used to think of remediation as something that is tedious, but now I realize it gives me an opportunity to learn from my mistakes in order to improve myself, especially when it comes time for the NCLEX. Overall, the remediation process went well and I was able to draw from my other course materials to help me understand why some of the answers I chose are incorrect, and why the correct answers are correct. I think my testing scores have slowly started to improve because of all the remediations!
