Happiness Homework #2

Happiness Homework #2

Hailey McRea- David Brooks makes a compelling statement in his article, The Moral Bucket List, about something called “The Humility Shift.” The ultimate meaning of this concept is individuals being able to accept their flaws and their weaknesses, and have what Brooks describes as “intense self-awareness.” He states that this will bring true happiness, when you are able to accept your flaws and sins, and accept that everyone has their own flaws and sins and what they are ashamed of too. This coincides with one of the main points from Reporting Live from Tomorrow by Daniel Gilbert. Gilbert makes a point to say that in order to be happy, you cannot always hold such high expectations for yourself, and always commit to saying that you are “above average” at everything you do. Both authors are trying to emphasize the point that in order to be happy you need to accept yourself, flaws and weaknesses and all, and work through them and realize that everyone does the same thing.
