Preparing for Licensure – Maternal Adaptive ATI
Overall, the Maternity Adaptive ATI went as well as I expected. I have not completely finished my maternity lecture rotation, so some of the questions I had difficulty answering, such as ones regarding newborn care. However, a majority of the questions I had remembered discussing in lecture or seeing it in my clinical rotation. I noticed that I had a pattern where I got the prioritization ones incorrect, and I believe this is because the prioritization for typical med-surg patients is different than maternity patients. For example, for a question regarding preeclampsia and what is the emergency symptom to report to the provider, I had chosen shortness of breath because I was thinking more along the lines of ABC framework. However, the correct answer was swelling in the face and fingers, which is the priority because it can indicate preeclampsia, which is an obstetrical emergency as it can lead to maternal seizures and fetal harm.
I have a better understanding of what I need to work on, as well as what I feel confident in. I want to keep reminding myself that specialty nursing there is their own type of nursing prioritization, interventions, assessments etc. I think I did really well on patient education and assessment findings, because that is what I saw a majority of in clinical, so I was able to apply what I witnessed first-hand into my test taking strategies, especially when it comes time for NCLEX.
